Currently under contract designing environmental monitoring equipment.I figured that since it didn't smell of burning metal I should be able to get it going again. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 1: Assess the Mess. I did notice that it was running hot for the past little while. First unplug the tool. Check to see if the shaft spins freely, if not you may have a bearing problem. You can sometimes free up a bad bearing with light oil but noisy bearings mean mechanical damage and it should be replaced as soon as possible. If the bearings are bad then the whole armature will need to be replaced. If it does then next check the brushes. These are under small blue screw caps on my tool. On my tool one came out easily while the other separated from the spring and remained in the brush holder. So it looks like I have a stuck brush which has worn down and no longer makes contact with the commutator (more later). This explains the no power situation.

Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 2: Disassembly Remove the hanging clip Remove the body screws, mine were torx 15 Gently separate the body halves making sure that no small parts fall out, like the shaft lock assembly at the nose of the tool. Remove the motor assembly from the body making sure to note which side is up with respect to your dis-assembly order. Remove the rubber spacer at the rear of the motor shaft Gently pull the brush block assembly rearward to remove it. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 3: Repairs Use a rounded tool like a screwdriver shaft and gently push the stuck brush out of the brush block. Check for damage, in this case there was none and I was able to re-use the brushes and brush block. Gently dress any warped or melted plastic with a needle file or sand paper. Reattach the spring to the brush using mild force. Test for proper fit by inserting the brush to make sure that it doesn't bind. I suspect that the heat was caused by a dirty and worn commutator ( where the brushes contact the rotor), which in turn caused the brush to melt into the carrier. Using a very fine sand paper ( 800 grit) clean and dress the commutator until it is shiny and smooth. Clean the black lines between the segments of the commutator using a brass brush to remove any chance of shorting. Add Tip Ask Question Comment Download Step 4: Reassembly Notes The brushes go in last. Severely worn brushes should be replaced. The brush holder connects to the motor assembly via friction fit contacts. Gently press them into place. Reattach the rubber spacer to the rear bearing and place the motor into the housing. Place the other half of the housing in place and test that to motor freely spins, if it grinds, open the case and flip the magnet assembly of the motor over and re-install, it should be smooth now. Screw the case shut. Look for a dark line on one edge of the brushes, if there is one, then this installs in the direction of the arrow.

Dark line in the direction of travel. Install the brush caps. Plug in the tool and test. If it doesn't spin at this point then you most likely have a burned out switch, unfortunately that will need to be replaced. Mine now works better than it has in a very long time. Now back to the original project. Recommendations Fermentation Quilt The manual says that on slow mode it spins 15.000 rpm but it doesn't seems to happen. Can anyone tell me what happened and how to fix it? Slow mode does not seem like 15,000. Did you resolve this. Should I just take it back and upgrade to the 3000 series variable speed? 0 dsaav I've had the same Dremel (300 series) for almost 15 years and never had an issue. Then today when I went to use it today it just wouldn't turn on. I followed your steps, in addition to using compressed air to blow out all the accumulated dust from inside the tool, and now it's working great. No noses or smell. It jumped and stopped. Now it will not turn back on. If the tool spins freely, the cord, the switch or the brushes could all be at fault. 0 thegrimbarian I will try what you suggest. I did take one brush out and it came out freely; but as I didn't really know what I was doing I put it straight back in and didn't take the other one out. I will try that tomorrow. I tried taking the casing apart by taking the screws out. I thought the hanger was still holding it together but wasn't shore so I put the screws back in in case I made things worse. 0 aceE5 Question What does this mean. Model 200 0 MattP167 I've switched, worked for a few seconds and stopped. Checked the fuse, the brushes, are fine.

Opened and checked for current continuity, I have current going though, from the circuit board to the variable switch and also I get current from the two of the four probes going through to the element. What do you thing the problem might be. How do I check the element if it works and how do I troubleshoot any further problem areas. I hope I am making my self clear, though my knowledge of electrical and electronics is very basic. But sometimes when taking your dremel apart. You may mis-align the plastic piece in witch the motor itself seats into. You will (atleast on the 3000 model) see 4 small prongs make sure those are in the correct position. I dont know all the technical terms. But if your wires arent the problem the prongs not meeting the electrical source is probably the culprit. Mine was also touchy when i came to the graphite brushes 0 Calgary84 I believe the culprit to be the connecting wires (white and black), but despite numerous configurations I cannot get the damn thing to turn on.But sometimes when taking your dremel apart. I dont know all the technical terms. But if your wires arent the problem the prongs not meeting the electrical source is probably the culprit. You should have a path on each side one white and one black. If not check the switch is in the fully on position.I hope that this helps and sorry for the late reply. 0 Theo kane You can check the rotating part but will need a multimeter to do so. The copper pads where the brushes contact the rotor should have a direct path to one another on opposite sides.I hope that this helps and sorry for the extremely late reply. 0 Theo kane How do I check if it is the outer core of the motor, or the inner core of the rotating part of the motor that its faulty. Thanks for any replay gents Theo 0 cowboyathome I have to clean mine a lot because I use it to carve wood and it gets a lot of dust in it. More Comments Post Comment Categories Circuits. We recommend that all tool service be performed by a Dremel Service Facility. This will properly “seat” your brushes, which extends the life of both your brushes and your tool. Only genuine Dremel replace - ment brushes specially designed for your tool should be used. If your tool runs spo rad ically, loses power, makes unusual noises or runs at a reduced speed, check the brushes. Use the tool wrench as a screwdriver to remove the brush caps in a counter-clockwise direction (Figure C). Check both brushes (Figure D). If one brush is worn out, replace both brushes. Make sure the brushes are installed as illus trated. The curved surface of the brush must match the curvature of the commutator. This will allow the brushes to “seat” properly and will give you more hours of life from each set of brushes. This will also extend the total life of your tool since the com mutator surface will “wear” longer. Ask your question here. Young 4.0 out of 5 stars It was exactly what I was looking for and the results were great. For the past week or so, though, I've been having issues with it. It seemed as if it wasn't spinning in a balanced manner. This is an problem when trying to do any detail or line work. Next I noticed that the motor seemed to whine or fluctuate quite a bit. Then I noticed that the speed selector wheel would adjust while powered on (see video), even if the bit wasn't in contact with any material. I set it at 5, but it will start lowering to around 4. The only material I've ever used this device on is wood. It has not been used on anything else. I have video of both issues, but Amazon only allows me to post one video per review. I contacted Dremel support after I initially noticed the vibrating or out of balance issue. Their response was to send it in for diagnostic and they would let me know if there were any additional charges for the repair after they had a chance to look at it. There was no offer to provide a pre-paid return shipping label or to initiate a replacement on the device. I've had this thing for only two months and now I'm responsible for paying to return it and may be hit with additional repair costs. What kind of customer service is that. I don't know if this is a common defect, but I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this device and with the customer service that I've received to this point.

I will probably end up sending this thing in for repair. I don't see that I have any other choice. However, I seriously doubt I will be purchasing any other Dremel products in the future if this is what I can expect from them. After reading my product review, a member of the Dremel support team reached out to me offering to make this right, seeing as how the tool was only two months old. I received a replacement tool and a prepaid return label for the defective tool yesterday. The time from first contact to receiving the tool was 7 days. I'm definitely grateful that they replaced the faulty tool and I have updated my rating accordingly, but I would offer the following suggestions to the Dremel support team in regards to customer service. First, your tech support should be a little more engaging. In my initial contact with support, I identified the tool as having been purchased in February, meaning that the tool was only used for two months. I was told to ship it to the repair center (on my own dime) for a diagnostic and that I would then be informed of any repair costs. It was only after I posted my negative review that a member of support reached out and offered the replacement tool and prepaid shipping label. Had this been offered when I first contacted support, I would have been satisfied and wouldn't have posted a negative review. Second, when dealing with a dissatisfied customer, it always helps to go a little above and beyond to resolve the issue. Again, these are just suggestions. I didn't factor either into my revised rating. I feel that a company shows its true colors when dealing with defective products and dissatisfied customers. There are going to be times when a product is defective. It is how the company deals with those instances that determines whether I'll be a return customer. That's just my opinion.I don’t like the lack in compatibility with other Dremel accessories which limits using larger collet pieces.

But because of the small size they’re limited to small accessories and that what makes it work for those who need a small lightweight Dremel. A nice starter Dremel if you are just starting crafts. I update my Review since Dremel Customer Service is Outstanding. Awesome warranty Department no fuss fixed without delay. Awesome I will continue to Purchase and Recommend Dremel to all my Friends and FamilyThis little jewel is comfortable in your hand, no muscle fatigue or cramping. Not a workhorse, exactly what I needed.I have a dremel I purchased years ago and a flex shaft. This is so much easier to handle than even the flex shaft. I have arthritis plus my hands go numb. This is so much easier on my hands. Absolutely love it!I bought it specifically to aid in finishing 3D print jobs. I haven't been disappointed. I wanted something small and this Dremel is even smaller than I expected. The collet is super easy to use, though I find the rotation lock a little hard to press in all the way. I've used the Dremel continuously for about 45mins at RPM level 3 and I didn't notice any heating or torque issues and the only thing left wanting is a case. For those that want printing specifics, I'm using 2.85mm EcoTough PLA. I've found that using an RPM setting around 3 is working fantastic for friction welding, and making minor modifications. I've only used the tools provided so far, but I'm going to experiement with more aggressive cutting tools in the future I think. Also I like is not noisy so is perfect to work at home at night. The design of tip changing isn't so quick for the new user. It took me 2 weeks to figure it out. The tips themselves are so small that it takes you a week just to do a basic job. I do like the design concept its the perfect hand size. Its powerful enough for a job but it does get warm quick so you have to let it cool off between uses. I would say yes, but the tips are not the best.
